How to Choose an Event Videographer in Sydney and NSW

By 618 Media Updated 2026 Sydney & NSW

The difference between a good event videographer and the wrong one is usually obvious — but only after you see the footage. Choosing someone before the event, based on a portfolio and a conversation, is where the actual decision gets made. Most event videographers can capture what happened. What separates the good ones is whether they capture what it felt like.

What to Look For in an Event Videographer's Portfolio

Watch their previous event work specifically — not just their showreel. A highlight reel is edited to impress. The individual event videos show you how they handle the actual challenge of covering a conference, a live show, or a community event in real time without the luxury of reshoots.

Pay attention to audio quality, especially on speeches, presentations, and live performances. Muddy or unclear audio makes a video unwatchable regardless of how good the visuals are.

Single Operator vs. Multi-Camera Crew

For small events under 100 people with one stage and one room, a skilled single operator is usually sufficient. They can cover the key moments and produce a strong highlight reel. For larger or more complex events, multi-camera coverage becomes important.

Pro Tip

Give your videographer the run sheet at least 48 hours before the event. A run sheet they receive on the morning of the event gives them no time to prepare.
